TRUMP IMMIGRATION THREATS RAICES’ EXPERTS ARE TRACKING
San Antonio, TX — RAICES, the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas and a leading refugee resettlement agency, is warning of the devastating consequences posed by the second Trump Administration’s extremist immigration policies:
The American public has been hearing a lot about the plan for mass deportations in the weeks since President Trump’s election to a second term in office. It’s been weighing on all of us, but it can be hard to wrap our heads around how something so dystopian will really happen — until it does. Will there be traumatizing, large-scale roundups? Yes — as soon as tomorrow, according to weekend reports. But mass deportations will also be made possible by a series of severe, egregious, and insidious executive and legislative actions.
The Trump Administration is resurrecting its most controversial and damaging anti-immigrant policies — such as Title 42, Remain in Mexico, and the Travel Ban — and it is also planning to enact measures that would have once been unthinkable. These include eliminating birthright citizenship, deporting individuals it designates as “national security threats,” and terminating Temporary Protected Status for millions who have called this country their home for years, if not decades.
Make no mistake about it — the complete disregard for human life and dignity will be at the core of this new administration’s actions against immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking people and families.
For far too long, the U.S. has tolerated the intentional destruction of our pledge to welcome those seeking freedom. Now, another crisis looms as President Trump vows to do everything in his power to undermine the legal and human rights not only of people and families seeking safety and a better future, but also of those who know no other home than the U.S. — of Americans.
We have no excuse not to protect each other. Don’t forget: an infringement on the rights of others threatens our own. But when we come together to defend everyone’s rights, we can also safeguard our own individual liberties.
