According to Faisal Al-Juburi, the co-chief executive of the Texas-based humanitarian aid and immigration services nonprofit RAICES, the diverse makeup of the U.S. national soccer team represents "America at its best." Al-Juburi, the son of Iraqi immigrants, emphasizes that the squad's World Cup success rejects the idea of dividing walls, showcasing instead how the nation is strengthened through coexistence and its immigrant roots. Rather than viewing this diversity as a traditional melting pot that dilutes individual backgrounds, he likens the team to a "gumbo" where distinct cultural lineages—spanning from countries like Nigeria, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Liberia, Jamaica, and Croatia—work together in a balanced way to improve the overall mix.
