Ms. Rachel goes to Washington, carrying letters from children in ICE custody
During her advocacy visit to Capitol Hill aimed at ending family immigration detentions , early-childhood media star Rachel Griffin Accurso (Ms. Rachel) highlighted the critical humanitarian concerns surrounding children held in ICE custody. Faisal Al-Juburi, the co-CEO of the Texas-based nonprofit RAICES, shed light on the scope of the crisis by revealing that nearly 90 children were among the roughly 320 people held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center as of early June. Al-Juburi emphasized the severity of the situation by noting that RAICES has documented approximately 1,500 medical concerns from families at the Dilley facility over the past year. While noting that immigration policy stems from systemic legislative issues, Al-Juburi underscored the profound impact of prominent figures like Ms. Rachel using their massive platforms to shift public culture and demand essential policy change.
