TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK — The seven-story-tall Nasdaq tower, which contains 10,000 square feet of signage, is being interrupted this week by the illustration of Lady Liberty and her torch — the symbolic image of freedom for immigrants arriving at Ellis Island — shackled by the buoys, razor wires, and bloody waters faced by people today on their journey to safety in the U.S.
Entitled Liberty: At Times, the digital artwork was created by RAICES, the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas, to illustrate how our government is willingly and actively endangering the lives of families and people brave enough to fight for their dignity and safety — while denying the fundamental promise of this country: liberty and justice for all.
Liberty: At Times is on display four times per hour every hour this week to call attention to the degradation of our nation’s professed humanitarian values by the White House, Congress, and elected officials in New York and Texas.
