Trump Travel Ban Comes as Little Surprise Amid Barrage of Draconian Restrictions
In a critical analysis by The Guardian, President Donald Trump's second-term travel ban is described as a "death by 1,000 cuts" aimed at dismantling legal immigration and the asylum system. Unlike the 2017 order, this expanded proclamation targets 19 countries and follows a series of draconian immigration restrictions, including the suspension of asylum at the southern border and the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of people. RAICES, represented by Faisal Al-Juburi, highlights that while the 2025 ban was more anticipated than its predecessor, it nonetheless creates a "state of chaos" by layering racism and xenophobia onto an already upended immigration landscape.
