Trump Asks the Supreme Court to Back Asylum Ban at U.S.-Mexico Border
The Trump administration has petitioned the Supreme Court to uphold its executive asylum ban at the U.S.-Mexico border—which officials credit for an 84% drop in border encounters—following a D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that struck down the policy as a violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Emphasizing the constitutional stakes of the legal challenge, Faisal Al-Juburi, co-CEO of RAICES, strongly condemned the appeal, stating: "By asking the Supreme Court to bypass laws that Congress passed to protect asylum seekers, the Trump administration is once again trying to seize unchecked power.
