Congresswoman Luz Rivas Conducts Oversight at Dilley Family Detention Facility in Texas, Raises Alarm Over ICE Secrecy
During a Congressional oversight visit to the Dilley Immigration Processing Center (Dilley Family Detention Facility) in Texas, Congresswoman Luz Rivas and her colleagues raised urgent concerns over heightened ICE secrecy, restricted access, and inhumane detention conditions affecting over 500 detained individuals, including pregnant women, children, and infants. Lawmakers reported being blocked from inspecting medical units or classrooms and were allowed to speak with only one child out of more than 100 on-site, prompting renewed calls for the facility's immediate closure. These findings mirror a report by RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services), which documented severe immigration enforcement abuses, degraded access to medical care and education, and widespread violations of the 20-day limit for the detention of minors in U.S. custody.
