Groups Warn Trump Isn’t Stopping Jailing Migrant Families, Demand Dilley’s Closure
Advocacy organizations RAICES and Human Rights First are calling for the immediate closure of the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, warning that despite a significant drop in the detainee population, the Trump administration shows no sign of ending the practice of migrant family detention. A joint report released by the groups, backed by U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, alleges that the South Texas facility, operated by private-prison firm CoreCivic, subjects families to inhumane conditions, due process violations, and psychological trauma. RAICES co-CEO Faisal Al-Juburi emphasized that current immigration policies are increasingly targeting long-term residents who have followed legal protocols for years, while advocates express concern over reports of new family detention sites being established in Alexandria, Louisiana, to facilitate mass deportations.
