AFGHAN COLLEGE STUDENTS GET OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW LIFE IN SAN ANTONIO

Refugee families from around the world have found support from local agencies such as the Center for Refugee Services. The center works with Catholic Charities of San Antonio and RAICES to assist refugees as they rebuild their lives in their new country. Services include English as a second language classes and tutoring for kindergarten through 12th grade and college. Margaret Costantino, the center’s executive director, said she’s proud of the students, many who arrive in San Antonio speaking little English, going on to excel in higher education. “It’s a pleasure to help these talented young people achieve their academic and career goals,” Costantino said. “In time, they, and many more immigrant and refugee kids, will give back more to our communities than we ever gave them when they first arrived.”
